Global Wine Regions

Rutherford Grove winery, Rutherford, California
Vinification of grapes has been taking place for hundreds of years in many regions around the world. Since then, certain regions have grown into the world leaders in terms of grape production, or wine production. While others have created wines by which all others are judged.

When many of us hear the word, "wine" we think of France.  France produces more wine than any other country, with the exception of Italy.  Clearly the quality of wines coming out of France far surpass all but a few wines that are produced in Italy.  So, why is it that so many great wines come from this relatively small country?
